At first I was hesitant to try a new online learning platform. But, once I learned more about using Boom Cards ™️ on Boom Learning ™️, I came to realize that it is an amazing way to share learning activities and games with students. Plus, it is easy to assign Boom Cards on other platforms like Google Classroom™️ and Seesaw!
Why I Love Using Boom Cards

Boom Cards (which are hosted on the Boom Learning platform) are an amazing digital learning tool.
In a nutshell, Boom Cards are digital, self-checking task cards.
They require no prep, no printing, no saving, no downloading.
Sounds amazing, right?
That’s because they are!
A note about this blog post: I’m not endorsed or sponsored by Boom Learning. This blog post is 100% the result of my opinion and experience with Boom Cards and Boom Learning.
Using Boom Cards for Instant Feedback
This is the top reason why I think every primary teacher should be using Boom cards.
I mean, what’s the point of doing a whole page of math problems if you did them all wrong, right? 🤔
Then you spent time practicing the wrong way to do things.
Not with Boom Cards!
By using Boom Cards, you’ll know that your students are getting immediate feedback. This ensures that they practice the right way, and makes their practice worthwhile.
P.S. Students don’t realize they’re practicing. They think they’re playing a game. 😍
Here’s a video where I explain my CVC Word Work Boom Cards and show you the immediate feedback it gives students!
Boom Cards and Audio
The second reason I love Boom Cards is because it is so easy for the creator (that’s me!) to incorporate audio.
Clip art is cute and all, but what happens with a student doesn’t know what the picture is?
That’s why I love adding audio to my digital resources.
Students can click on a picture (see the video above) and hear the word.

This is especially helpful for students who are working without a parent at their side, or students whose parents do not speak English.
Now, other online learning platforms, like Google Classroom™️, allow you to incorporate audio.
However, if I share Google Slides™️ with audio with another teacher, and they want to use it on another platform (like Seesaw), the audio disappears. 👎🏼
Not cool.
Don’t worry. With Boom, if a deck is intended to have audio, the audio remains, no matter how you choose to assign your Boom Cards. 🎉
Boom Cards and Student Data/Progress Reports
Remember how I said that students get immediate feedback when they play?
Well, with premium Boom accounts, teachers can get student data and progress reports.
That means you don’t have to sit and “grade” 25 Google Slides™️.
You can open up the “Reports” tab in Boom and see exactly how your students scored on their decks. 😲
Tracking student data and generating progress reports does require a premium Boom Learning account. (This is $15/year as of 8-31-2020. Click HERE and scroll down to “membership plans” to learn more.)
But remember, students will always get immediate feedback when they play, even if you are using a free teacher account. 😍
Is it free to use Boom Cards?
Boom cards require an Internet connection and a modern Internet browser in order to assign or play. (They have apps available, too!)
Teachers are required to have a free Boom Learning account in order to assign Boom Cards to their students.
(Click HERE to read a step-by-step blog post on creating your FREE Boom Learning account.)
However, students do not need Boom Learning accounts in order to play.
Just like other types of educational resources, there are free Boom decks and paid Boom decks.
So yes, it is free to use and assign Boom cards. ☺️

Plus, you can stay organized by having all of your distance learning activities in one place.

Boom Card Requests
I am currently in the process of reformatting my Sight Word Lessons & Practice and my Digital Phonemic Awareness Games to Boom Cards.
Do you have other Boom Card Requests?
Leave them in the comments below, I would love to work on them! 😁
Can you do boom cards for all types of syllables? That would be so helpful!
Hi Liz,
I will make note of your request! 🙂
My question is do you have a suggestion of how to use Boom decks on Zoom. I am tutoring, and finding that the children are not using them away from tutoring, so I am sharing the screen with a Boom deck. Have not been able to successfully give the student the ability to move letters and respond, so have been doing the deck on preview with them telling me the answer. Would love to be more effective in using the Boom decks. Thanks so much for your response. Janet Grove
Hi Janet,
I believe you can give the student control of the screen and then they can move things around and click submit. You may want to check out the Zoom support on it here:

I hope this helps!
Thank you for the tutorials. Very helpful.
Hi Terri,
