The Ultimate List of CVCe Words
What are CVCe Words?
CVCe words are words that contain a consonant, vowel, consonant, and then the letter e.
These words can be extremely tricky because the “e” is actually silent.
Not only is the e silent, but the vowel that is smushed between the two consonants becomes a long vowel.
When students learn to read, they usually begin with CVC (consonant, vowel consonant) words. In this case, the vowel makes the short sound.
Students become accustomed to reading words with the short vowel sound, and then bam, we introduce long vowels and silent vowels. 🤦🏽♀️ Thanks, English language. #nobodysaiditwaseasy
CVCe can also be referred to as silent e or magic e, to help students remember to change the first vowel’s sound and make the e silent.
